IIDT offers Training programs in Civil and Mechanical Designs. The training provides focused, specific education for someone who has experience in the field and needs to know CAD, or has a specific set of job skills they need to obtain. This one year program focused on preparing a student for work as a drafter in the design industry.

What is Drafting?

Drafting means art of drawing or a rough sketch. Drafters develop clear, complete and accurate working plans and detailed drawings based on rough sketches and specifications furnished by engineers, architects, or designers. Computer-aided drafting (CAD) systems are the principal tool used to prepare technical drawings. Drafting is done manually using drafters and other geometrical instruments and also using software like CADD. These days Civil & Mechanical drafting is being widely used in technical schools and colleges. CAD drawings are also the principal source of data for operating machinery used for prototyping and fabrication like CNC (Computer Numerical Controlled) mills and newer technology like 3-D Printing and laser cutting. Drafters can work for architectural, engineering or construction firms, government agencies, mining firms and manufacturing industries.

About the Programs

These programs combine focused training in computer-aided drafting with a well-rounded exposure to the professions, trades and materials commonly used in industry. Courses combine technical CAD training with the vocabulary and knowledge needed to communicate with future employers in the engineering fields.

Class sizes are small to encourage student-instructor interaction and to allow for individualized assistance. Most classes are held in the evening to meet the needs of students who are currently employed.

Civil Drafting and Design

Civil drafting and design program covers engineering and surveying data to draw planes for civil engineering projects. Civil drafting is the drafting used for civil concerned projects or constructions. Specific area of study includes plan and profile drawings, cross-sections and legal descriptions.

Civil drafting deals with maps plants for constructions and other civil related projects. It includes development of fundamentals skills like sketching techniques, use of bearings and azimuths, engineers scale and scale conversion, drawing of counter lines, use of mapping symbols, preparation of site plan, layout of highways and use of surveying equipment’s. Drafters prepare detailed representations of buildings and other structures. Candidates have opportunity to work on various types of civil drafting projects while studying the creation of planes, profiles & topographic maps.

Mechanical Drafting and Design

Mechanical drafters and designers illustrate projects so that others have a visual guideline to construct products and structures. They work from rough sketches, specifications and calculations made by others, including engineers and scientists.

Mechanical Drafting and Design program prepare candidates to be skillful in engineering drawing, manufacturing, CADD, dimensioning and solid modeling. Mechanical draughtsman is responsible for drawing assembly of machinery and mechanical devices in detail. They indicate dimensions, fastening methods and other requirements required for manufacturing. Mechanical draughtsman also works side by side with engineers and architects to develop new projects. Drafting or technical drawing is the means by which Mechanical Draughtsman design products and create instructions for manufacturing parts.

Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD)

Using and optimizing AutoCAD software and peripheral equipment to create computer generated 2D and 3D drawings is the focus of this courses. Candidates learn how to navigate the CAD user interface and gain familiarity with basic terminology and fundamental features of the software. By the end of the course students know commands and techniques for creating, manipulating, editing, storing, and presenting accurate and aesthetically pleasing technical drawings.

This training program is designed for candidates from secondary and high school whose are passionate about design with better observation and visualization skills and also problem identifying and solving ability.

Role & Responsibilities

Drafting professionals work under the direction of architects or engineers to transform ideas and designs into technical diagrams and plans with the help of computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) software’s.

Key Tasks

  • Log work orders into database and distribute and file work order folders daily
  • Coordinate work order process with supervisors and engineers
  • Prepare layouts, drawings and designs according to engineering specifications using software
  • Accurately post closed work orders to the master design files
  • Review engineering drawings and supporting documentation to verify adherence to standard practices


At the end of this training, all students will be prepared to enter assigned internships and will receive certificate with fixed wages from company for this effort. Along with this after training program process, we also work on Students profile for further Recruitment and Professional Development.
